In 1755, the first West Indies sailing ship set out to sea, and a short time later the golden age of trade with the Caribbean islands followed \u2026<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-925f85f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"925f85f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Between 1380 and 1864, a Danish empire covered a wide expanse of Northern Europe. Flensburg was controlled by the Danish crown from 1460 to 1864. In the 18th century, the city, along with Altona and Copenhagen, was one of the most important sea trade ports for ships in the West Indies fleet.<\/p><p>In their search for the \u201cwhite luxury\u201d sugar \u2013 the highly sought after cargo for Europe \u2013 many large Flensburg merchant families sailed to the Caribbean colonies known as the \u201cDansk Vestindien\u201d &#8211; St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix.
